Dorothy Bond's lifelong wish has been to help animals. She took early retirement in 1989, after working as a manager with an international airline association. She was a volunteer at animal shelters and soon realized that overpopulation was the root cause of animal suffering and homelessness.

Dorothy founded The Bond Foundation for Animal Welfare to help eradicate animal overpopulation. The Foundation is in its 8th year and in that time more than 15,000 animals have been sterilized. The Foundation has two major programs: one offers low cost spay/neutering to the general public (through cooperating veterinarians), and the other supports five shelters by paying 75% of their spaying and neutering costs. Dorothy Bond is the major financial contributor.
